The team coach/facilitator works with the team, not as part of a training programme but facilitating the team carrying out real work. This takes place, typically at board, management or project meetings

What is it?

An independent consultant working with the team, often at their scheduled board, management, project meeting.

This recognises that the best situation to develop the team's effectiveness is when it is doing real work in it's normal surroundings. The situation is real, the work is real, the behaviours are real. Consequently, the feedback received and commitments made are more relevant and sincere than those made on a "training course".

How does it work?

The consultant agrees objectives and approach with the team beforehand. This will include agreement on :

Freedom to challenge behaviours and process
a review process
contracting
feedback mechanisms

During the meetings the consultant observes, gives feedback, leads reviews and helps the team to highlight and resolve blocks to performance. This process often uses individual and team diagnostic tools to accelerate the improvement process.

What results are achieved?

The focus of the process of team coaching is determined by the issues the individual team faces. However, it typically results in:

Better quality decisions being made by the team
